say his mother lied about abduction and could face
charges.
A woman who claimed her 2-year-old son was kidnapped
lied in hopes of extorting sympathy money, police said
Wednesday.
The woman, whose name was not released, likely will
face a charge of filing a false police report, said
Detroit police spokesman James Tate.
Early Wednesday, she reported that her son, Troy
Squall, was snatched from Rosemont and Wadsworth and
driven away in a minivan. Officers canvassed the
neighborhood but found nothing.
After hours of police questioning, the mother said the
boy actually was with a friend.
Tate said the woman had concocted a plan to pretend
the child was kidnapped in hopes of getting money.
Police were investigating the role of the friend and
another adult late Wednesday.
The child, Tate said, was in police custody and
appeared unharmed.
